Currently, MIKE powered by Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) is assessed as the top of hydraulic and environmental process simulation software in the world. In the hydraulic – hydrologic field, experts use types of MIKE software such as MIKE ZERO, MIKE URBAN with MIKE 11, MIKE 21, MIKE Flood modules, etc to simulate river and canal flows; simulate two-direction overflows combined with drainage system for flood modelling in urban areas.

In Ninh Thuan, VAWR has developed hydraulic modelling of Dinh river by MIKE NAM module which is established according to the principle of transferring rainfalls into stream flows. Moreover, VAWR has also set up drainage models for Phan Rang – Thap Cham city, salinity models of Dinh river estuary in consideration of severe climate change impacts on Ninh Thuan.
To ensure that the modelling results are used for appropriate purposes and applied well to the forecast of flood flows to reservoirs as well as the construction of early warning system for Ninh Thuan and other scopes, from July 25 - 27, 2017, Implementation Unit for Capacity Development and ODA Water Resources Projects in Ninh Thuan Province (MCDU) invited the DHI experts in Viet Nam to deliver a training course on MIKE software use for the staff of the departments of Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Construction and the modelling management specialists of MCDU. After trained, they will understand more and be able to operate the hydraulic – hydrology and drainage models by which applicable recommendation outcomes shall be provided to other activities.
