It’s optimal for a water-scarce region as Ninh Thuan province to apply the scientific solution of water-saving irrigation. However, the current province’s condition has not enabled a large-scale application of this solution. As the same time, several factors such as economic issues, establishment of specialized cultivation areas, supportive policies to farmers, product consumption solutions, etc. were addressed as obstacle to the application of this economic irrigation technology.
Collecting information related to grape vine situation
In order to have a firm basis for assessing the scientific and practical characteristics of the water-saving irrigation technology and disseminating the model throughout the province, from November 7 – 9, 2017, the experts from IWE together with the Project Management Unit had working sessions with relevant provincial units as well as localities on grape vine development situation, current applied cultivation techniques and paid field visits for assessment, analysis and selection of pilot areas to apply comprehensively the technology of water-saving irrigation and nutrition management for grape vine.
Recently, the farmers in Thanh Son, Thai An and Phuoc Khanh communes have applied the spray and drip irrigation technologies on grape vine but in a small scale and fragmented manner. Moreover, several governmental projects are concentrating on the 3 regions towards a large-scale application and a centralized production.
The field visits at the households
The comprehensive application of this irrigation and nutrition management technology on grape vine will contribute to further development of garden and farm economic modalities, positive changes of rural and scarce regions, improvement of people’s knowledge, access of scientific technologies to people’s living and shortened gap between the urban and rural areas.
