In order to conduct one of the initial evaluations of community’s awareness and concern over river water quality, water resources protection and saving solutions, a survey was carried out from June 28 – 30, 2017 covering 3 communes of Phuoc Hau, Phuoc Huu and Phuong Hai.
In order to provide the local authorities and people of the 3 communes with the survey results, information of the project and several priority issues to be implemented for an assured quality of the river water as well as water resources saving and protection activities, Implementation for Capacity Development and ODA Water Resources Projects in Ninh Thuan Province (MCDU) held Reporting Workshops on Survey Resuts of Community Concern over River Water Quality, Water Resources Protection and Saving Solutions and Approval for the Communication Plan for PIM Project in 2017 in Phuong Hai, Phuoc Hau and Phuoc Huu communes respectively on September 22, 27 and 28, 2017.
The Workshops were attended by more than 120 representatives from the relevant Communal People’s Committees, unions and associations, water users groups and households living near a river area or a channel/ditch system, especially the farm households amongst them.
At the workshops, the participants were provided with the survey result report, the project information and communication plans at the end of 2017, and also consulted about the establishment of Core Communication Groups (CCGs), which shall become a key supportive groups for implementing communication activities in the localities; play the role of a focal point of information and suggestion transfer between the project and the community; and share their experience to promote the model dissemination in the other localities of the project area.
According to most of the participants’ opinion, the report accurately assessed the level of awareness and reality situation in each of the localities. Besides, they expressed their concern in fostering the communication to raise community’s awareness and their agreement on the communication plan for the quarter IV/2017.
Regarding to the establishment of CCGs, the participants of Phuong Hai and Phuoc Hau communes offered a recommendation that this should be carried out based on succeeding and further promoting the activities of the existing water users groups and adding members and building a suitable operational structure. Particularly, Phuoc Hau’s representatives provided their advice that a new communication group, operating and implementing communication activities independently from the water users groups, needed to be built to gain the project’s overall objectives.
At the end of the workshops, 100% of the local authorities and people of the 3 communes provided their commitment to cooperate and support the implementation of the above-mentioned communication activities.
