In the evening of April 6, 2018, the City Women’s Union, in cooperation with Implementation for Capacity Development and ODA Water Resources Projects in Ninh Thuan Province (MCDU), organized a launching ceremony for the first club in Thanh Y hamlet, Thanh Hai commune. The ceremony attendees included representatives of the Provincial WU, the City Party Committee, the City Fatherland Front Committee of Vietnam; the Party Committee and People's Committee of Thanh Hai Commune; Nam Thanh Trading –Service – Construction Co. Ltd, the Women's Union of 16 communes / wards and more than 200 people of Thanh Y village.
The club "Shopping basket – Proud of a housewife" in Thanh Hai commune comprises of 50 members who are from the local hamlet WUs. Mrs. Thanh My Nu Kim Thanh, Head of the Club, on behalf of all the members, provided a commitment to promoting the movement and mobilizing the local women in the commune to practise this good habit and minimize their use of nylon bags as a contribution in environment protection. The club operates autonomously and regularly. Each of the members is responsible for being a good example of practicing this habit as well as implementing the propaganda of reduction of nylon bag use in their community. They are eligible to nominate good individuals in the community to the club too.
At the ceremony, the delegates were also provided with the information of harmfulness of nylon bags to people’s health, environment and reported the club's operation regulations. Beside the club establishment, many other communication activities such as local radio broadcasting, integrated meetings, etc. have been carried out towards enhancing the movements of the shopping basket and minimizing discharge to the environment.
At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Vo Ngoc Minh, the MCDU’s Vice Director, highlighted the practicality and the compliance with the project objectives of this activity. Each of the participants is expected to become an active communicator contributing in the success as well as further dissemination of the pilot.
It is expected that the clubs in the 6 remaining wards/communes will be launched in April, 2018.
