There were three major activities included in the program, namely Youth union members’ participation in coastline clean-up campaign and signing of environmental protection and plastic use reduction commitment; registration in voluntarily keeping the city Regulation Lake green; Celebration Meeting for the 2018 World Environment Day; especially, the contest ‘Ring the Golden Bell about "Green Living - Climate Change Adaptation" topic, participated by 100 youth union members.
World Environment Day, which is held on June 5, is the biggest annual event on environmental protection. The World Environment Day this year is an opportunity for each of us to beat plastic pollution around the world by several different means.
Economic growth and consumption model changing have rapidly caused a significant increase in plastic waste, resulting in the global environmental problem of plastic pollution. According to the United Nations Environment Program, every year, people produce a huge amount of plastic waste which is enough to spread around the Earth four times. Approximately 500 billion plastic bags have been consumed all over the world but most of them weren’t properly buried at landfill sites. It is estimated that at the current plastic use rate, additional 33 billion tons of plastic will be produced by 2050 and the majority of them will exist in the oceans for centuries. Plastic waste such as plastic bottles, bags, food containers, cups, etc., together with other environmental pollutants have negatively impacted on every aspects of human life of environment, economy, society and health due its sustainability characteristic. It has become a great challenge for the community and for society.
